If the Eight Sleep app shows your Pod as "offline," it means the app can't communicate with your Hub over WiFi. This is usually caused by a network change, a temporary connectivity drop, or the Hub needing a restart.

Follow the steps below in order. Most offline issues are resolved within the first two sections.

## **1\. Check the basics**

Before troubleshooting your Hub, rule out the most common causes:

* **Is the Hub plugged in?** Make sure the power cord is fully connected to both the Hub and the wall outlet. If using a power strip or surge protector, try plugging directly into a wall outlet instead.

* **Is your WiFi network working?** Check that other devices in your home (phone, laptop, etc.) are connected and able to browse the internet. If your home WiFi is down, your Pod will not be able to connect until it's restored.

* **Did anything change on your network?** If you recently updated your WiFi password, switched routers, changed your network name, or had your internet service provider make changes, your Hub will need to be reconnected to WiFi (see Section 3).

## **2\. Reboot your Hub**

A simple restart resolves most temporary connectivity issues.

1. Unplug the Hub's power cord from the wall outlet.

2.  Wait **30 seconds**.

3.  Plug it back in.

4. Wait **2–3 minutes** for the Hub to fully restart and reconnect to your WiFi network.

5. The front LED on the Hub should turn **steady white** when it has successfully reconnected.

6. Open the Eight Sleep app and check whether your Pod is back online.

If the Hub LED does not turn steady white, or your Pod still shows as offline, continue to Section 3.

## **3\. Reconnect your Hub to WiFi**

If your Hub can't find or connect to your WiFi network — for example, after a password change, a new router, a move, or a persistent connectivity drop — you'll need to reconnect it manually.

### **Step A: Put the Hub into pairing mode**

1. For Pod 5 or earlier: Locate the **large button** on the back of the Hub (near the top). **Important:** There is also a small button — do not press that one.

2. For Pod 6:  Locate the **large button** on the back of the Hub (near the top).

3. **Press and hold** the large button for **20 seconds**, then release.

4. The LED on the front of the Hub will begin **flashing blue**. This means the Hub is in pairing mode and ready to connect to a new network.

### **Step B: Reconnect through the app**

1. Open the Eight Sleep app.

2. Tap the **Controls** icon, then the **menu (gear icon)** in the top-right corner.

3. Go to **Manage Pod** **→ WiFi → Network → Reconnect WiFi**.

4. The app will search for available networks. Select your WiFi network from the list.

5. Enter your WiFi password and tap **Connect**.

6. Wait for the confirmation screen. The bottom Hub LED will turn **steady white** once connected.

### **WiFi network requirements**

* Your Hub connects over the **2.4 GHz** band. If your router broadcasts separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, make sure you select the **2.4 GHz** network.

* If your router uses a combined (dual-band) network, the Hub will automatically connect to the 2.4 GHz band

* The Hub does not support captive portals (networks that require you to sign in through a browser, such as hotel or office guest WiFi).

* Note: 5GHz and some mesh networks may not work with a Pod 2 or older, however, if you add a wifi-extender you can connect to that and bypass the restriction

## **4\. Improve your Hub's WiFi signal**

If your Hub frequently goes offline or struggles to maintain a connection, the issue may be signal strength between your Hub and your router.

* **Move the Hub closer to your router** if possible, or move the router closer to your bedroom.

* **Reduce obstructions.** Walls, large furniture, and appliances (especially microwaves and baby monitors) can interfere with the WiFi signal.

* **Use a WiFi extender or mesh network.** If your bedroom is far from your router, a WiFi extender or a mesh network system can provide a stronger, more reliable connection in the room where your Pod is located.

* **Avoid placing the Hub on the floor behind furniture.** Keep it in an open area with clear line of sight to the router if possible.

## **5\. Use a mobile hotspot as a temporary connection**

If your home WiFi is down and you need your Pod to work tonight, you can temporarily connect your Hub to your phone's mobile hotspot.

1. Turn on your phone's **mobile hotspot** (found in your phone's Settings under Hotspot, Personal Hotspot, or Tethering). For iOS, you can click on “maximize compatibility” to ensure the best hotspot.

2. Follow the steps in **Section 3** above to put the Hub into pairing mode and reconnect through the app.

3. When selecting a network, choose your **phone's hotspot name** instead of your home WiFi network.

**Note:** When your home WiFi is back up, repeat Section 3 to reconnect the Hub to your home network. Staying on a mobile hotspot will use your cellular data.

## **6\. Backup Mode (automatic Bluetooth fallback)**

If your Pod loses WiFi connectivity for more than 5 minutes, **Backup Mode** activates automatically. This lets the Eight Sleep app communicate directly with your Pod over Bluetooth — no WiFi or internet required.

**Backup Mode is available on Pod 3, Pod 4, Pod 5, and Pod 6.**

### **What you can do in Backup Mode**

*   Turn the Pod on/off

*   Change temperature levels

*   Flatten the Base

*   Stop sounds

*   Dismiss or snooze alarms

*   Use tap-to-control

### **What is temporarily unavailable in Backup Mode**

* **Autopilot** will not run or make automatic temperature adjustments.

* **Sleep & Health reports** will be delayed until connectivity is restored.

* **New alarms** cannot be created, edited, or saved.

* **Snoozing or dismissing alarms** cannot be done.

* **Bedtime schedules** will not automatically activate. You'll need to turn the Pod on manually.

### **How it works**

* Backup Mode activates automatically — no action is needed on your part.

* The app will display a notification that it is operating in **Backup Mode**.

* Make sure **Bluetooth is enabled** on your phone and that you are within range of the Hub.

* Once your WiFi or cloud connectivity is restored, the Pod will automatically exit Backup Mode, sync any stored data, and resume normal operation including Autopilot.

## **7\. Check the Hub LED status**

The LED on the front of your Hub indicates its current state. You can look [HERE](https://help.eightsleep.com/en_us/what-do-the-hub-light-colors-mean-on-the-pod-BJ8UePrkB) for the full list of definitions.

## **8\. Factory reset your Hub (last resort)**

If none of the steps above resolve the issue, a factory reset will restore the Hub to its original settings. **This should only be used as a last resort.**

1. Locate the **small button** on the back of the Hub (near the bottom, next to the power cable).

2. **Press and hold** the small button while the Hub is plugged in.

3. The LED will flash **green**, indicating the reset is in progress.

4. Release the button and wait for the reset to complete. This may take several minutes.

5. Once finished, follow the steps in **Section 3** to reconnect your Hub to WiFi.

**Note:** After a factory reset, you will need to set up your Pod again through the app. Your account data, sleep history, and preferences are stored in the cloud and will sync back once the Hub reconnects.
